I recently had the opportunity to design a logo for my high school youth pastor, Dave Hite and his wife Tina, who started a new youth ministry, Rooted, based out of Enterprise, OR.
Dave and Tina were my first youth leaders in high school in Shelby, MT. They led me on my first short-term mission trip to Lifeline Christian Mission in Haiti, where we built a house for a family in need, dug trenches for electrical lines, worked in a clinic, helped meet the nutrition needs of the community of Grand Goave, delivered baby layettes to new moms, and handed out gifts and letters to sponsored children.
For Rooted, they wanted a logo that was grungy, appealing to youth, and had some literal “roots” in the logo which they wanted to be text based instead of an icon. After presenting them with 3 options, they chose option 1 with a change to the font, and we have a finished logo!
Here’s a bit about the final design:
Earthy with a side of grunge. The fonts: Grad Regular All Caps & League Gothic. The colors: dark green & bright yellow-green. This one is just a name and a description, but the graphic elements added to the text give it a little punch. The T in rooted has been modified to look not only like a lower case t, but also a cross, communicating the humility of Christ, and the humility it takes for one to abide, or be rooted, in Him. Verse inspiration for this design came from John 15:4:
“Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.” (John 15:4 NLT)
